The 112-year-old Sion Road overbridge connecting Mumbai’s eastern and western suburbs will be closed from today (Wednesday, January 17, 2023). It is estimated that more than 12,000 motorists will be affected by the collapse of this historic British-era bridge. It will have more number of heavy goods delivery vehicles in Dharavi, Sion and West Mumbai. Meanwhile, since the Sion Road overbridge is closed, let us know the detailed information about the alternative routes.

Sion Road Overbridge comes under Mahim, Matunga, Chunabhatti, BKC, Chembur traffic division. Around 50 to 60 traffic wardens have been deployed as this bridge will be demolished. Also, people will be informed about new traffic diversions and indicators through loudspeakers and other means.

3 Alternative Routes for Sion Road Overbridge Travellers

1) Santacruz-Chembur Link Road via Kurla, which connects to the Eastern Express Highway.

2) Road towards Sion Hospital via Sulochana Shetty Road, which connects Dr BA Road in Dharavi to Kumbharwada.

3) Chunabhatti- Bandra Kurla Complex Connector (two wheelers and three wheelers not allowed)

CCTV cameras have been installed in the area to maintain traffic order. Many roads connected to this bridge have been diverted. This may take drivers another hour to one and a half hours. Drivers will be guided by local traffic departments besides traffic helpline numbers and various social media platforms of the traffic police.
