Sion Bridge shut down for 2 years : 4 Bus Routes Will Be Disrupted: 24 transit routes, with over 200 buses each day, would be severely impacted by the upcoming Sion bridge shutdown, which is expected to begin on January 20. This information was released on Friday by the (Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport). It is anticipated that there will be several route curtailments and diversions, which may cause everyday passengers to experience difficulty.

Affected routes
A spokesman for rihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport, Sunil Vaidya, said that the diversions would impact seven routes with fifty-six buses, including those that go via Sulochana, 60 foot Road, and Dharavi T-Junction. In addition, there will be detours on 4 routes, totaling 26 buses, between Sion Hospital and the Maharashtra Weighbridge.
In addition, because of the bridge closure, three routes with 26 buses will have their destination changed and four routes with 32 buses will be shortened.
The Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM) and the Central train intend to replace the current Road Over Bridge (ROB) close to Sion train station with a new one. The old ROB will be closed starting on January 20 in order to complete the demolition and reconstruction.
Cost and other details of the project
The project will set you back about Rs 50 crore. The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Mumbai, structural audit report that suggested rebuilding the old ROB with steel girders and an RCC slab led to the decision to demolish it. Additionally impeding prospective railway lines between CSMT and Kurla are the current ROB.
The demolition process is scheduled to start on January 20 and the closure is expected to continue approximately two years. Passengers are kindly asked to cooperate and show understanding during this important infrastructure upgrade by Central Railway.
The diversions
- Six bus routes that were diverted via Sulochana Marg, 60 foot Road, Dharavi T-Junction, provided 48 bus services each day.
- One bus route that is diverted via Sulochana Marg, 60ft Road, Dharavi T-Junction, and Dharavi Depot, with eight bus services each day.
- The BKC Connector will be used to redirect three bus routes, totaling thirty-one daily services, between Kalanagar and Priyadarshini.
- Four bus lines, totaling 26 daily bus trips, that use Dharavi Depot, T-Junction, 60-foot Road, L. T. Hospital as a diversion between the Maharashtra Weigh Bridge and Sion Hospital.
- One bus route that is diverted via R.L. Chowk, Sion Hospital, Sulochana Shetty, 60 Feet, and Banwari Compound, with six bus runs each day.
- Between Maharashtra Kata and Rani Laxmibai Chowk, two routes with 25 bus services per day are detoured via Dharavi Depot, T-Junction, 60 feet of road, Sulochana Marg, Sion Hospital, and R. L. Chowk.
- Due to the Sion ROB closure, four bus routes with 32 daily bus services will be shortened, and three routes with 26 buses will have their destinations changed.
